LAURIE’S STAFF REVIEWS & RECOMMENDATIONS!
From Sam...
Steve Martin & Edie Brickell - Love Has Come for You
I know, I thought it was a weird joke at first too. Edie’s voice & Steve’s banjo (along with the help of some other bluegrass players) sound perfect together, and they even wrote all the songs! If you dig pretty/stringy/grassy country give it a try.

From Melissa...
Claps- Wreck LP
If you missed Minneapolis synthpop/minimal-wavers CLAPS here on Record Store Day, you can now pick up their awesome LP here at the store. They’ll have a record out in the the future on Chicago’s awesomest record label, BLVD Records (blvdrecords.com)! If you like early Depeche Mode, OMD, Yaz, weird analog synths, drum machines, and/or moody and dramatic synthy goodness, you will like it. BLUE VINYL, too!

Implodes- Recurring Dream
OMG WTF JUST BUY THIS. Implodes are, hands down, Chicago’s best droney-gazey-rock band. This is their second album and it’s beautiful. It seems a bit darker than their last record, which is a good thing, ok? Brooding, postpunk elements with a dash of JAMC and heavy, fuzzed-out, affected-guitar drones = perfect combo.

Merchandise- Totale Night
OK, this third album from DIY-punx-doing-80s-dark-dramatic-style Merchandise is as moody as ever (Ian Curtis+Moz-like vocal affectations compare to the CLAPS record, too! ... see above) and soooooooooo goooooooood. Do you see a theme (ahem, “moody”) running in my picks here? Anyway, this record is full of shimmery, reverbed, dark/gothic pop, the songs are long and tremendous and equally monotonously rhythmic and weirdly drenched in spacey new wave. Mastered by Sonic Boom, weirdly. Spin Magazine says this album is “WORST NEW MUSIC” but Spin Magazine suqs dik so don't believe that un-hype!

RECORD STORE DAY THANKS!
Gee whiz, y’all. We had such a fantastic day, so we’d of course like to thank everyone who came by to shop/hang out/say hi/see bands on Saturday. WE FELT THE LOVE. And hope that you did, too.

Also BIG thanks to everyone who patiently waited in line for a very long time. Hope it was worth it for ya.

Thanks to all of the bands and performers, who all ROCKED: Nicholas Tremulis, Luke Winslow-King, Dolly Varden, Edward Burch & the Grand Ennui, Claps, Unur & Cinchel.

Thanks to Half Acre Beer Company, Chubby Wieners, Bloodshot Records, CHIRP, the folks at Chicago Reader, all the folks at WXRT, and the wonderful Terri Hemmert.

Thanks to our “honorary” RSD employees, Lou & Paul & Rosey Laurie.

Thanks to all of our labels, distributors, and salespeople who gave us great fills and who all rule.

Thanks to our UPS man, Sergio, who felt the burn ALMOST as much as we did.

Biggest thanks to the boss-man, John Laurie, without whom this store would not exist, and who indulges his crazy staff constantly, consistently, and with humor.

XOXOXO.
